This is a game product of Upper One Games which is the Microsoft Windows personal computer version that is available on other platforms that are Wii U, OS X, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.It falls under the puzzle group of games. Basically the gamer get the opportunity to play as Nuna who is a girl that has an artic fox as a companion. I like the fact that it offers the gamer an opportunity to switch role character from the girl to the Arctic fox. It gives the gamer the Alaska feel with several stories like Rolling heads, Sky People, Man Slayer and Little people among others. The game has a nice gameplay that goes hand in hand with the Alaskan portrayed graphics that give a complete game product that gives the gamer a near actual feel of Alaska. Generally it is a good game that offers a very different perspective to the gamer.

Pros

  • It offers a "switch-role" capability.
  • It gives the gamer a good gaming enviroment.

Cons

  • It doesnt have a thrilling experience.

A clone of Limbo. So, right, let's start with what many think to see the game trailer. This is another clone of an indie success only with a different look. But if we were to go using the word 'clone' to each analysis we do whether indies or AAAs, we were going to spend. So we clear doubts: Yes, totally plays Never Alone in Limbo school, but it nevertheless implement own thing and offer an equal, but even more beautiful, tender and hypnotic experience heartfelt and spiritual. In fact, rarely it has seen anything like this work because of the novel E-Line Media is both a game itself as a cultural piece that seeks to preserve the culture of the Inuit people living in extreme part Alaska, bordering the Arctic circle. A product done with Cook Inlet Tribal Council, a non-profit organization that seeks to preserve the cultures of indigenous peoples.

The control is simple, a 2D platform-hopping and two characters must work together to help and always stay together, highlighting the button Protect Blizzard, as occasionally touches lie down or the wind blows we will pull , although the study has implemented imaginative ways to leverage our advantage the wind. The key proposal is to combine the skills of a character with another, such as being able to climb ropes and ladders and pull that has the fox with the drag boxes of Nuna and breaking things, something possible thanks to the latter boleadoras magical.

Pros

  • Cooperative much better with experience
  • Viewing times, as the northern lights, and good use of blizzards

Cons

  • AI ally when playing alone

Surely such an experience of playing quiet as it is not exactly long, Never Alone is like Limbo, Braid or Two Brothers: A different journey, with its own tempo, which judged according to the standard rules of a game would be far from perfect for those listed negatives, but a truly heartfelt experience, with a load of tenderness, delicacy and feeling each step we take an innocent girl by hostile environments, getting help from the spirits in times when it seems we will stay stuck, and forming these some of the moments and hypnotics achieved game. It is short, keep it simple, though one will jam at the puzzles from the game-Ecuador, where most enjoy is when it ends, there are things to improve / refine (this analysis has been done in PS4 version will receive a patch next week). But these games do not look perfect, just tell their stories and to forgive their failures in exchange for being drawn into an atmosphere and sensitivity that have AAA. Here discover a fascinating culture and as real as the people we see in the videos. And it is that is noticeable when a creator puts passion to what he does, although the result is likely to improve.

Pros

  • very good narrative, blending the culture of Alaska in the history of the game and mechanical
  • His stage and sound effect is delicate and hypnotic

Cons

  • It is and it becomes very short

Review

Never Alone is a platformer 2D puzzle videogame developed by Upper One Games and published by E-Line Media. It is available for PC and the next-gen consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. When playing, you will become Nuna, a little Iñupiaq girl who wants to save her people from the endless blizzard that is invading her village. Along with a white arctic fox, she undertakes a journey in which you will explore the culture and lives of the Iñupiaqs, a tribe of Alaskan native people.

Amazing landscapes

Visually speaking, Never Alone is minimalistic and cute. The main characters, Nuna and the fox are the focus of all the details, especially in those parts of the adventure in which the camera zooms in and offers a detailed sight of them. The developers have set the backgrounds blurry to make you focus on the characters. A eternal blizzard (the cause of the problems of the tribe) will be present along the major part of the game when our characters are outside. However, even when the backgrounds are blurry, you can see that there are unforgettable scenes such as the Aurora Borealis.

In regards to the sound effects, we are facing a little piece of art. The blizzard, the ice under your feet, the animals you will find, everything has its corresponding sounds and they are very realistic. The electronic music seems to be far away from the style of Never Alone, but nothing could be further from the truth. The chill out music fits with the atmosphere of the game, without sticking out, rather supporting the feel. The typical drum of the Inuit also makes its appearance when the pace of the videogame becomes faster. It is worth mentioning that Never Alone is narrated in Iñupiaq language, but do not worry, it has subtitles.

Gameplay

Never Alone is divided into eight chapters that, depending on your abilities, you will complete in about three hours. As mentioned, once you download Never Alone and start playing, you will control Nuna and the arctic fox. It follows the classic platformer style with some puzzles to solve. Each character has his or her own abilities to solve the puzzles: Nuna has a bola with which she can shoot; she also can climb with ropes and move boxes. The fox is able to jump higher than Nuna, but his special ability is to draw spirits that are close. Those spirits can create platforms with which you can pass or grab.

You will become Nuna, a little Iñupiaq girl who wants to save her people from the endless blizzard that is invading her village

It is possible to play alone, switching from one character to another by pressing a button, or play with a friend in the local co-op. If you play alone, the AI will take control of the characters you are not using, and this can be a bit problematic since the AI is not too good. Sometimes the AI character can die in the most senseless way, dragging you with it. This does not happen too often, but it happens.

The weather and the atmospheric conditions are almost a third character in the game. The wind can hit you and make you fall, for this reason, you must be careful and bend to avoid that. However, you can also take advantage of it and use it to boost you in your jumps. The Aurora Borealis, in this case, are spectral beings that can catch you and defeat you if you are not careful enough. All these facts make this game a complex adventure, even when at first sight it seems to be simple.
