The Stanley Parable is a first-person adventure exploration, in which little more we can do to move, crouch and press a button to interact in online games like Dear Esther or the recent Gone Home. He said in a rather simple way, it's like Portal will despojáramos of all its puzzles, and leave him alone narrative, our funny relationship with GLaDOS, only in The Stanley Parable freer to waver that omnipresent voice with us at all times.

Stanley us, 427 Employee of a company located in a large building, whose job is to sit all day in front of a desk with a computer and pressing buttons on a keyboard commands that tell you which keys to press, for how long and at what order. This is what every day of the year, even without really knowing what it is, a task that many would consider boring, tedious and unbearable, but Stanley will delight and makes you happy. Then one day something happens, and no order for an hour does not appear on the screen of your computer, nobody gives instructions Yours or called for a meeting, an unusual event in his comfortable routine, leaving him paralyzed good while, until he decides to rise from his seat and find out what happens, from us to take control of the character.

Follow And You’re Fine; Disobey and It Will Make You Laugh

By Kyle Daniels

On Tuesday, March 17, 2015

The question in this game is: To follow or not? I've been playing this interactive videogame for the past days and most of the time it gives me minutes of laughter every time I don’t follow the demands of the narrator.

The game play is so simple. I believe this is the most simple yet fun game I've ever played. In this game, which comes with its full version and is made available for PC and Linux among others, users will be controlling Stanley, who is left alone in the office. He will be guided by a narrator, voiced by Kevan Brighting, who will give him instructions on what to do and where to go. The adventure that users got to experience here is unbelievable. There are multiple ending that characters may reach depending on the pieces of advice given by the narrator. At some point, there will be funny situations if players won’t obey the narrator and this really adds excitement on the game. The graphics is also good but not that excellent. Music presented in the videogame is also okay.

I advice players should not all the time follow the narrator to make their experience more fun.

Pros

  • The game is exciting and unpredictable
  • Players has the freedom to follow or not

Cons

  • The game is not action-packed

Review

The Stanley Parable is a first person interactive videogame developed by Davey Wreden (the original) and Galactic Cafe (the HD remake). Available for PC, Linux and Mac, this game is an exploration adventure in which you will become Stanley, a bored employee of a great company whose only function is to press the buttons following the orders he receives. He does it every day, with no need to know why he is doing it, or for what reason. However, he is happy with his job.

This is your boring office
This is your boring office

One day, something happens; his computer's screen turns off and he does not receive orders. After a while, he decides to explore his office, just to figure out that he is alone, and there is no one in the building. Here is where you take control of Stanley. A voice, that is the narrator of the adventure, will tell you what you have to do, but you are free to obey him, or just do whatever you want.

In regards to the technical aspect, especially the graphics, The Stanley Parable is OK, it neither stands out nor is unacceptable. Basically, it is enough for this game, because the graphics are not the important thing. Speaking of sound, the music is almost inexistent, but it does not matter because the narrator, Kevan Brighting, has done a marvelous job, and he steals the show. Stanley is not the protagonist of his own game; rather it is the narrator.

Gameplay

Once you download and start playing The Stanley Parable, you will see that there is almost no gameplay. Your only mission is to make decisions and figure out which of the multiple endings it has is what you reach. You will not shoot, run, fly, or other things typical of videogames, you can only choose where you want to go, and at best, press some button or a simple thing like that.

After a while, he decides to explore his office, just to figure out that he is alone, and there is no one in the building

If you choose to follow the words of the narrator, you will reach an ending, but you can choose to disobey him. This will lead you to a funny situation, because the narrator will be madder at you as you disobey his orders. He will hand out gibes, ironic things, etc. All this will lead to a hilarious nonviolent fight among you and the narrator. He will start to ironize about the language and the rules of the videogames. For example, he jokes about why in the first person games; the player never sees his or her feet.

Depending on your decisions, you will reach different endings. Completing the whole game can take you no more than a half hour, but if you want to see the multiple endings, you will have to play a bit more. Every time you make a choice, the narrator will adapt his speech to your decision, and each decision leads to a different adventure.
